Giotto di Bondone, commonly known as Giotto, was an Italian painter and architect from Florence during the Late Middle Ages. He is considered a pivotal figure in the history of Western art, heralding the transition from medieval to Renaissance artistic styles. Born in 1267, Giotto trained under Cimabue, a prominent artist of the time, and quickly surpassed his master's work in both technique and emotional depth.
