The Athena Promachos was a colossal bronze statue of Athena, sculpted by Pheidias, that stood between the Propylaea and the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens. Athena represented wisdom and war.
Historical Context
Erected around 456 BCE, it was a monument to commemorate battles such as the Battle of Marathon and the Greco-Persian Wars.
